Rowing is obviously a big sport in Oxford, not just because of the Oxford-Cambridge boat race, it's a large part of college life too with several major events taking place each year. Things can be competitive and it's a source of pride to colleges when their teams win - so training is hard and makes the most of the quiet times first thing in the morning before students have to attend lectures and tutorials.
